I'm Alison.
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I hold a master’s degree (MSc) in counselling and psychotherapy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in how and why we all think, feel and behave as we do.
Before training in therapy, I enjoyed a long career in Education. I am an experienced teacher, educational advisor, adult trainer and have been the Director of Education for a national charity working to support inclusion. Here I would often work with others in education to improve the experience of all learners through better understanding and appreciation of human difference.
The diversity of my work along with all of my own personal experience has taught me so much about the importance and centrality of relationships.
Creating trust, expressing acceptance, supporting autonomy and valuing every individual are principles from this breadth of experience which also form the foundation of my therapy practice. Research consistently show us that good therapy is based on the strength and quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client. Relationships are transformative and that offers so much hope.
My real life experience contributes to my practice, as does my commitment to ongoing learning. As we all experience the world differently, I feel that there is not one objective, universal ‘truth’ that a therapist needs to guide a client towards, rather we all need to develop our own sense of meaning. Therapy can support you in this process of reflection.
